More Nikon/Nikkor Lens Problems: 18-200mm Autofocus motor fails

When we went down to Tallships Fourth of July weekend, I found that my one year old lens, an 18-200mm ED-IF AF-S DX VR Nikkor, wasn't working right. The Autofocus wasn't working correctly: the motor seemed to not be functioning at all (I eventually confirmed that it was the lens, and not the camera). Once again manual focus worked fine, so I still took a handful of pictures.

Although I bought it online at Pictureline, my local store, Abolins Photography, took care of shipping it back to Nikon. Within a couple of weeks, my lens was back and working correctly. Cheers to Abolins Photography for helping me out, I was sorry to hear today that they will be closing their doors.

Highline CC Boat Trip

We attended the Highline Community College Benefit Auction this year. One of the items that our group bid on was a day trip around Puget Sound in a 50ft (or so) cabin cruiser including snacks and some delightful company. Steve, Jemima, Stephanie and I met our host on the northeast side of Commencement bay. After getting underway, we picked Mark up, from his Vashon Island home.

Walla Walla Birthday Surprise

For my birthday, Stephanie surprized me with a trip to Walla Walla, we were met there by Melissa and Brian, and my Parents. This happened to be the weekend of the annual Walla Walla Balloon Stampede. We went there Saturday morning to watch some of the balloons launch, then later in the day we were ferried around to several of the area wineries via private limo service.

France 2008: The Pyrenees and Costa Brava

In the second half of our spring vacation we flew to Barcelona, and traveled up into the Pyrenees Mountains and over into France. Stops included, Montserrat, Ax-Les-Therms, where we stayed at La Belle Ourse, Quillan, and Estagel where we stayed at Auberge du Cellier.

Texas 2008: The Vistaski

As part of our spring vacation, we visited Steve and Carol and spent most of the time at their new vacation home the Vistaski, at Thornridge. It was really great to see the fruits of their labor. It wasn't warm enough to spend time on the lake, but we did go on some walks around the ranch, checked on the bluebird houses, and went into "town", Corsicana, were we saw a park that holds the first western oil well. We also got to meet Walter and Benny, Steve and Carol's English Springer Spaniels which we hadn't met before.

We bid a fond farewell to Vincent, our host at the Tuilerie, cleaned out the basket of pain au raisin and croissants -- topped off with homemade thyme jelly from Vincent's mother, and set off for Uzes where we would be staying the next four nights.
